The current openings are utilized part-time, throughout the year for fall and winter sports programs, spring and summer sports programs, summer camps, and various other openings within Recreation.

Minimum age for any position is 16. All new employees will be subject to drug/alcohol screening, TB testing, and will be fingerprinted prior to beginning work. Required certifications must be submitted prior to employment.

MLK Jr. program staff (Recreation Leader/Instructor):
Must possess the desire and ability to work with youth from elementary to high school age. Be a positive role model to improve the lives of youth in a recreational and educational environment.
Candidates must have a desire to work with children and adolescents, be self-motivated, take initiative, and work well as a team.
Education, Experience and Special Requirements:
Typical education would include high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment as a student, and some experience or knowledge in the assigned activity.
Typical experience would include some experience as a participant, coach, official, or advisor in the assigned activity.
Possession of the appropriate California driver’s license is highly desirable, but not required.
Must possess or be willing to acquire valid Basic First Aid Certification and CPR/AED Adult with CPR Child/Infant Certification.

Selection Process: Final appointment is contingent upon:
Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check.
Passing a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test.
Veteran’s Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating “Honorable Discharge” from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
