We train and promote from within

Selected interns help SPI’s Reforestation Professionals to implement the establishment and maintenance of our planted forests to ensure they flourish and produce high quality timber products for our sawmills. The Reforestation Intern’s primary duties include: aiding in area layout and preparation, vegetation cover assessments, stocking surveys, and plantation thinning administration.

Opportunities also include working with SPI’s Vegetation Management Specialists to establish and maintain our fuel break network and landscape fuels reduction areas to ensure the protection and long-term health of our forests. Interns will also have the opportunity to spend time at our new state-of-the-art nursery and aid in our advanced tree improvement program. Working alongside professionals and PCA’s in the field will provide a real-world foundation for continued education or a career in reforestation.

Forestry Internships offered by SPI provide opportunity for employment upon graduation from our interns’ respective degree programs. Completion of an internship is not a guarantee, nor an offer of employment.

• Graduation from, current enrollment in, or acceptance in an Agriculture, Forestry, Natural Resources, or related program of study is preferred
• Interns must be able to cross-country hike and negotiate steep, brushy terrain
• Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to navigate a 4-wheel drive vehicle along off-highway roads
